Love it or hate it, REI Return Policy is one of the most popular outdoor retailers in the United States. The company offers a wide range of outdoor gear, apparel, and footwear for both men and women. While the company’s prices are often on the higher end, REI is known for its generous return policy. In fact, the retailer even offers a lifetime return policy for many of its products. What is REI’s return policy?
At REI Return Policy, we believe that a life outdoors is a life well lived. And while we know that not every purchase works out the way you hoped it would, we’re committed to making things right if you’re not satisfied with your gear. That’s why we offer a hassle-free return policy.
Here’s how it works: If you are not satisfied with your REI purchase, you can return it for a refund within one year of purchase, except for final sale items. After one year, we will repair or replace your item at our discretion.
We also offer an extended holiday return policy from November 1-December 31. During this time, you can return items purchased from REI for a full refund, regardless of when they were purchased.*

Can you return an online purchase to the store
If you made your purchase online, you can return it to any REI store. Just bring in your order confirmation email or packing slip, and we’ll process your return. If you don’t have either of these, we can look up your order in our system using your name and email address.
In most cases, we will refund the original form of payment. If you paid with a gift card or other prepaid method, we’ll issue a new gift card for the value of your return.
Please note that we can only accept returns for items purchased from REI.com. If you purchased an item from one of our retail partners, please contact them directly for their return policy.
How strict is the REI return policy?
REI’s return policy is pretty lenient compared to most retailers. You can return an item for any reason within one year of purchase, as long as you have the original receipt or packing slip. There are a few exceptions to this rule, such as special order items and gifts, but generally speaking, REI will take back anything you’re not happy with. They also offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee on all of their products, so if you’re not happy with something you’ve bought from them, you can always exchange it or get a refund.
REI Exchange Policy
In order to exchange an item at REI, you will need to bring in the item you wish to exchange, along with your valid ID and purchase receipt. You can also exchange your item by mail, but you will need to contact REI customer service to initiate the process. All exchanges must be made within 60 days of purchase, and items must be in new and unused condition.
If you are exchanging an item for a different color or size, REI will ship the new item to you for free. If you are exchanging an item for a different style or type of product, REI will charge a shipping fee. Exchanges by mail typically take 7-10 business days.
REI also offers a refund on most items if you are not satisfied with your purchase. To receive a refund, simply return the item within 60 days of purchase, along with your valid ID and purchase receipt. Refunds will be processed in the same form as the original payment method. Shipping costs are non-refundable.
REI Refund Policy
In order to process a refund, REI requires that you have your original purchase receipt and the credit card used for the purchase. If you do not have your original purchase receipt, REI may be able to look up your purchase using your credit card information. Once REI has located your purchase, a refund will be processed to the original credit card used for the purchase. The refund may take up to 10 business days to appear on your credit card statement.
If you need to return an item that was purchased online or over the phone, you can either return it to an REI store or by mail. If you choose to return by mail, please use the provided pre-paid shipping label and send it back within 30 days of receiving your order. Include a note explaining why you are returning the item and whether you would like a refund or exchange. Once received, REI will process your return and either issue a refund or exchange within 10 business days.

If you don’t have a receipt, REI will process your refund as an even exchange or a merchandise credit. The refund value will be the lowest selling price of the item within the last 90 days.

If you are not satisfied with your REI purchase, you may return it for a refund within one year of purchase, without a receipt. To receive a refund, you must present a valid photo ID. If you do not have a photo ID, REI may, at its discretion, attempt to verify your identity by other means. Returns without a valid photo ID will be refunded as an REI gift card.
REI may refuse a return or exchange if it determines that the item was damaged due to abuse or misuse.
Can I return my REI products after 30 days?
Yes, you can return your REI products after 30 days, but you will need to follow the instructions on the REI website. To return an item, log into your account and select the order you wish to return. Then, select the item you wish to return and the reason for return. You will then be given a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number. Include this RMA number with your return and ship the product back to REI. Once REI receives your returned product, they will refund your purchase price, less any shipping charges.

Final sale items
All sales of final sale items are final and cannot be returned or exchanged. This policy is stated clearly on the product page of each final sale item. If you have any questions about a final sale item before making your purchase, please contact us and we would be happy to help.
Wear and tear
Wear and tear is damage that occurs to an item as a result of normal use. At REI, we accept returns for items that have been damaged due to wear and tear, as long as you have a valid proof of purchase. To start a return, please visit our website and select the “Start a Return” option. You will need to provide your order number and the reason for return. Once your return is processed, you will be issued a refund for the purchase price of the item.
If you’re not satisfied with your REI purchase, you can return it for a refund within 1 year of purchase, as long as you have your original receipt or packing slip. If you don’t have your original receipt, REI will give you a store credit. You can also return REI merchandise without a receipt for a store credit. All returned items must be in new, unused condition with all original tags and packaging intact.

In addition to our standard return policy, certain items are subject to special return conditions as noted below. Please read the following carefully before making your purchase:

• Gift Cards – Gift cards cannot be returned or redeemed for cash (except as required by law), and they are not replaceable if lost or stolen. Purchases made with gift cards may be refunded as store credit only.
• Personalized Items – We’re unable to accept returns on personalized items, except when due to our error.
